Selangor Land Office to produce new formula for leasehold properties extension, says MB

THE issue of leasehold extension for commercial properties will be referred to the Selangor Land Office for them to produce a new formula to calculate the premium fee, said Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

“I understand the issues the property owners face and we want to give them a fair chance to continue their lease.

“This matter will be discussed as soon as possible. (After a new formula is calculated) we hope the Selangor Land Committee will decide on the matter by August or September this year,” he said.

StarMetro had on Friday highlighted the plight of a group of shop owners in Petaling Jaya Old Town, Petaling Jaya, whose property leases would be expiring soon.

They were worried about the status of their properties as they could not afford the renewal cost.

One owner said he would have to pay almost RM1mil to renew his lease for another 99 years for his 20ft x 80ft shophouse.

Amirudin was speaking after a flag handover ceremony to the Selangor contingent heading to the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma XXI) to be held in Sarawak in August.

The event, organised by the Selangor Sports Council (MSNS), was held at the Dewan Raja Muda Musa in Section 7, Shah Alam on Saturday (Aug 3).

Selangor youth, sports and entrepreneurship committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi and MSNS executive director Nizam Marjugi were also present. Mohd Najwan will be leading the Selangor contingent.

The 21st Sukma features 37 sports and 484 events. It is scheduled to take place from Aug 17 to 24, across nine cities and towns, including Bintulu, Kuching, Miri and Sibu.

The Selangor contingent is targeting a haul of 61 gold medals and overall champion title at the Games held every two years.
