A HOUSEWIFE had wanted to instal sliding doors in her family’s new home in Taman Rinting, Pasir Gudang in Johor, but the plan ended in disappointment.

Siti Amalina Mohammad Hanafiah, 32, had sought the aluminium doors with a wood finish for the kitchen in her double-storey terrace house.

“We found the doors with brown aluminium frames to match our wooden cabinets,” she said outside the Johor Consumer Claims Tribunal in Menara Ansar, Johor Baru.

Siti Amalina found the company in Taman Setia Indah through its Facebook page and made a bank transfer of RM1,825 for the doors costing RM3,650 on April 2.

The claimant said the company was supposed to instal the doors within three weeks but failed to complete the job without any valid reason.

“We gave them another date – May 11 – and waited from morning until late afternoon and again, they failed to turn up,” said Siti Amalina.

She said the company staff called in the evening, claiming its lorry broke down on the way to her house and told her a replacement lorry couldn’t be found.

The claimant then told the company to carry out the installation either on May 16 or May 17, but the company did not revert until the day the family moved into their house last June.

Tribunal president Hafez Zalkapli ordered the respondent, who did not attend the hearing, to refund RM1,825 to the claimant within two weeks.

In an unrelated case involving a similar company, junior auditor Nur Hanani Mohd Salleh, 32, paid RM4,720 to instal three-fold sliding doors at her family’s new double-storey house in Bandar Layangkasa, Masai.

“They were supposed to instal the doors in March during Ramadan as we planned to move on April 7, before Hari Raya Aidilfitri,” she said.

The company installed the doors on April 22 but Nur Hanani was unhappy with the workmanship as they had taken wrong measurement.

“The length of the doors was supposed to reach room floor. But because of the wrong measurement, the doors are too long and cannot be used,” she said.

The claimant said the company was supposed to dismantle the doors and send them back to its factory to have the frames cut, but this wasn’t done.

“We are still renting a house in Seri Alam and are not sure when we will be able to move to our new house,” said Nur Hanani.

Hafez ordered the respondent, who did not attend the hearing, to refund RM4,720 to the claimant within two weeks.
