Implementation of the fifth phase of Kuala Lumpur Development Blueprint (Kepong), involving Jinjang Utara, is expected to be completed in October.

Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng’s assistant, Dic Lai said the project costing approximately RM2mil would involve some 20 shops and four alleys in the residential area located along Jalan Jinjang Utama.

“The project at Jalan Jinjang Utama is aimed at reviving the commercial area by widening the road and removing illegal extensions blocking the way.

“Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) served notices to traders who had not removed their (illegal) extensions in February and March,” Lai said during a site visit.

“In April, we briefed traders on the project and gradually, they removed the illegal extensions.

“Since these illegal extensions have been cleared, the road can be widened and more parking bays can be added.

“Vehicles can now pass through the alleys which were previously blocked,” he said, adding that work started in June.

Lai also said that DBKL had started cutting down some of the trees on Jalan Jinjang Utama to make way for road expansion.

“The roots of these trees had damaged the drains and posed a danger to traders and the public,” he said.

Lai said DBKL was also discussing with Air Selangor and the Fire and Rescue Department to resolve issues related to pipes that were built on the road and could cause obstructions during construction.

He urged traders to cooperate with authorities throughout the project period.

Works in the residential area (Jalan Jinjang Indah 2, 3, 8 and 9) mainly involved upgrading infrastructure such as drains, Lai added.

Fok Chek Yong, 57, who has lived in Jinjang Utara all his life, said the development blueprint would benefit residents.

“Although some sacrifices need to be made, I understand that these are all for the collective benefit of residents.

“I hope that the project can be finished as soon as possible,” he said.

The development blueprint has seen four phases of upgrades being carried out – in Metro Perdana (2020), Kepong Baru Tambahan (2021), Kepong Baru (2022) and Jinjang Selatan (2023).

Also present during the site visit were Federal Territories Residents’ Representative Council (Sub-Zone 2) president Koid Teng Cheong and DBKL officers.
