Used car dealer ordered to repair 4WD’s faulty engine

Mohd Husaini says he has yet to hear from the used car dealer.

A farmer is out of pocket and patience after his pickup truck breaks down just three days after buying it.

Mohd Husaini Hasanuddin had purchased the 4WD from a used car dealer in Johor Baru on April 18.

The claimant paid RM72,000 for the 12-year-old vehicle, which had already clocked 72,000km.

“Gear shifting was not that smooth during the test drive but the salesman assured me there were no problems with the engine,’’ he said when met outside the Johor Consumer Claims Tribunal in Menara Ansar in Johor Baru.

Mohd Husaini said the vehicle broke down in Felda Tenggaroh on April 21, about 90km from his farm in Kempas, Johor Baru.

“It was 10pm and I was stranded. I had no choice but to check into a nearby homestay and have the truck towed to Johor Baru the next day,” he said.

The claimant sent the vehicle to the used car dealer’s panel workshop in Taman Johor Jaya for repairs.

Mohd Husaini said the foremen told him the engine was beyond repair and needed to be replaced.

“I sent the vehicle back to the dealer on April 24 but a week went by and they did not get back to me about replacing the engine. The vehicle is still with them,’’ said the former engineer.

Johor Consumer Claims Tribunal president Lee Chee Thim ordered the respondent, who did not attend the hearing, to repair the engine within two weeks.
