ASPHALT core testing will be carried out on all roads in the Mega Road Resurfacing (MRR) 2024 project, a large-scale road resurfacing throughout Selangor that will start in two weeks to ensure compliance with the aggregates' thickness.
Selangor infrastructure and agriculture committee chairman Izham Hashim said the asphalt core testing is important to evaluate the quality, durability and thickness of compacted asphalt core sections, ensuring the road’s structural integrity.
“Core testing will be done at random spots and if issues are found in the newly resurfaced road, it will allow for readjustment to better the road’s density, long-life and performance,” he added after he launched the Pandan Indah Classic Carnival in Ampang Jaya earlier on Saturday (Aug 10) evening.
Izham who is Pandan Indah assemblyman said the core test on freshly laid roads is a standard operating procedure to ensure it meets road construction standards.
“MRR 2024 project allocation is RM20mil to ensure the roads guarantee users’ safety”. Road resurfacing works where most damages were reported will be carried out simultaneously throughout Selangor through the additional allocation of the Malaysian Road Records Information System (Marris). It will involve all routes, including state, local authorities, and village roads,” he said.
In 2023, the state government spent RM50 million on the MRR project, covering maintenance and road widening to improve residents’ facilities, which was carried out comprehensively.
The selection of roads for repair work was based on the highest number of complaints from the public, reported through X (formerly Twitter) or the Infrasel app, which is managed by state-owned subsidiary Infrasel Sdn Bhd.
On the Classic Carnival that saw about 100 stalls and lots of activities witnessed a huge crowd at the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council public park at Jalan Pandan Utama, Izham said the response was good and it should be made an annual affair.
