ALMOST RM45mil has been secured in investment commitment with a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) and Yueqing Municipal People’s Government of China.

The MOU was facilitated by Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung.

“This partnership has culminated in substantial outcomes, including a US$10mil (RM44.2mil) investment and tangible projects that will benefit both cities economically and technologically.

“I look forward to seeing the positive impact of these initiatives in the near future,” said Lee, who is also the Centre Of Regional Strategic Studies (Cross) chairman.

The MOU was signed by Petaling Jaya mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon and Yueqing Municipal Committee of the CPPCC, Zhejiang province chairman Chen Xiangdong.

The event was witnessed by Lee and Petaling Jaya deputy mayor Aznan Hassan.

During the ceremony, Mohamad Zahri said the MOU represented an agreement at the MBPJ level to continue cooperation and form a special task force comprising members from both parties to study the feasibility of the proposed projects, financial implications and involved technologies.

“It will also discuss in more detail the structure and implementation mechanisms of the mutually agreed projects,” he said.

Chen said Yueqing Municipal Committee and Government are promoting the integration of the electrical and new energy industries, accelerating the construction of a world-leading advanced manufacturing cluster.

“We sincerely hope both cities will use this MOU as an opportunity to strengthen friendly exchanges as well as economic and trade interactions,” he said.

On March 24, 2023, MBPJ welcomed a delegation led by Yueqing Municipal People’s Government deputy mayor Ye Xufeng.

During the visit, both cities agreed to establish a collaborative partnership and a Letter of Intent (LOI) was signed.

The focus areas included investment, science and technology as well as economic and trade development.

Following this initial engagement, Lee facilitated a delegation of MBPJ officials and industry representatives to the 23rd China Electrical Equipment Cultural Festival & Yandangshan Digital Economy Summit from Nov 7-9, 2023, in Yueqing.

This visit further solidified the collaboration, leading to the signing of the MOU.
