Preparations ready, Sibu all set for Sukma

IT’S all systems go as Sibu town in Sarawak is ready to receive about 1,000 athletes and officials for the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma XXI).

Sibu is hosting three events for the games, namely football, volleyball and badminton.

“We have monitored all preparations, and God willing, everything is ready.

“This includes conducting a dry run for transport, as it is crucial for all athletes and competition officials to arrive at the venues from the sports village two hours before the competition.

“We will work closely with the police to ensure smooth movement during the competition and to prevent any delays,” said Sukma XXI chief executive officer Datuk Hii Chang Kee (pic).

Speaking to reporters after inspecting Stadium Tun Zaidi, Hii called on residents to turn up in full force to watch the football matches as well as badminton and volleyball competitions.

He said the football matches in Sibu were only for the preliminary stage.

After that, Mukah will host the subsequent rounds, including the finals.

Prior to the site visit, Hii attended a meeting with the Sukma secretariat and all committees in the Sibu division to oversee the final preparations for the games and to ensure all the 20 working committees were committed to fulfilling their respective roles for the smooth running of the games.

Sukma XXI takes place from Aug 17 to 24 across nine divisions in Sarawak, including Bintulu, Kuching, Miri and Sibu.
