More foreign runners sign up for PJ Half Marathon


THE PJ Half Marathon taking place on Sunday will see an increase in the number of foreign participants.

Petaling Jaya mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon said 7,000 out of the 8,000 registered participants for the run’s 34th edition were from the Klang Valley.

“There has also been a notable increase in international participants, with over 250 participants from 38 countries.

“This shows that the PJ Half Marathon is becoming well known and attracting more international runners,” he said at a press conference.

The event is organised by Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) and Puncak Ventures SRA Sdn Bhd in collaboration with the Selangor Para Athletics Association.

There are five categories – open run for 30km, 21km and 10km, a 5km fun run and 1km Anime-themed fun run.

Runners will be flagged off from Laman MBPJ.

As part of preparations for the event, MBPJ has announced road closures starting at 6pm on Aug 17 to noon on Aug 18 at Jalan Yong Shook Lin.

The police will implement traffic control measures in phases on several roads starting at 4am to 11am on the day of the event.

The roads are Jalan Sultan, Jalan Barat, Jalan Utara, Jalan Timur, Jalan Changgai 6/22, Jalan Templer, Jalan Selangor, Jalan Pasar 1/21, Jalan Railway 2/28, Jalan 2/27, Jalan Penchala, Persiaran PP Narayanan, Jalan 229, Jalan Baiduri SS1/22, Jalan SS1/36, Jalan SS2/24, Jalan 19/8, Jalan Harapan, Jalan 19/1, Jalan 21/1, Jalan 20/13, Jalan 20/14, Jalan 14/47, Jalan 14/48, Jalan 51A/223, Jalan Dato Rais Jamil 15, Jalan Semangat, Jalan Universiti, Jalan Bukit 11/2, Jalan 12/13, Jalan 12/16, Jalan Kemajuan.

“A total of 100 traffic and 80 enforcement officers from MBPJ will be deployed to manage traffic and ensure the smooth and safe execution of the PJ Half Marathon for both participants and the public,” said Mohamad Zahri.

He also advised participants to park their vehicles in designated areas and avoid parking on the roadside to prevent traffic disruption.
