An official send-off ceremony was held for Ironman athletes at KL Wellness City Gallery in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur.

The ceremony saw KL Wellness City (KLWC) branding, sales and marketing director Datuk Seri Dr Vincent Tiew handing over the KLWC flag to Malaysia’s fastest Ironman triathlon finisher Teh Kuok Yuen to take to Copenhagen, Denmark, for the Aug 18 race. Tiew is also taking part in Ironman Copenhagen.

The developer also signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with five new strategic partners, witnessed by National Fitness Section Sports Development Division deputy director Mohd Hilmi Dahlan who was representing Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh.

Ironman events are endurance races that consist of 3.8km swim, 180km cycling and 42.2km run, all completed continuously within a certain cut-off time.

Originating in 1978, the Ironman triathlon tests athletes’ physical and mental fortitude as they push their limits to complete this gruelling race.

Tiew will attempt to complete his ninth Ironman within 21 months of his first.

Notably, the cut-off time for Ironman Copenhagen is 15 hours and 45 minutes, shorter than the usual 17-hour cut-off.

Teh meanwhile will be striving to achieve his personal best timing in the race, with his current best time at 9 hours and 28 minutes.

KLWC already has MOU pacts with Cowa and Vivo.

Reflecting on the latest MOU signing, Tiew said, “The strategic partnerships we are establishing today will significantly enhance our offerings and reinforce our commitment to promoting a holistic approach to health and wellness.

“These collaborations are a testament to our dedication to creating a thriving health-centric community.

“We are incredibly proud to support our athletes as they represent KL Wellness City on the global stage at the Ironman triathlon in Copenhagen.

“This event marks our continuous support for health, wellness, and excellence,” said Tiew.
