They urge DBKL to reconsider 14-storey commercial development
RESIDENTS of TSI Business & Industrial Park in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, are concerned an upcoming project could exacerbate the area’s already dire traffic situation.
Community activist Yee Poh Ping raised the alarm over the upcoming project in Jalan Vista Mutiara 1 during a media visit to the site.
He said at the moment, the neighbourhood was home to over 2,000 residential and commercial units, in addition to two nearby industrial zones that required ample parking.
“A new development will only increase the population density, with additional vehicles taking up limited on-street parking.
“This will affect residents and businesses alike,” he said.
According to a July 19 letter from Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) Planning Department, a development order (DO) was issued on Feb 26 for a commercial development on a piece of vacant, privately owned land.
The proposed 14-storey structure will include five levels of parking for over 70 office units.
Yee urged DBKL to reconsider the DO approval.
He said the developer should also be required to incorporate additional parking.
Yee said he had submitted a letter to DBKL on Aug 14 about his concerns.
Resident Woon Yeow Pin said the parking situation at Jalan Vista Mutiara 1 was already bad.
“People are forced to park illegally by the roadside.
“If this new development proceeds, the situation will become unbearable,” he added.
