Kulai council looking to increase public amenities

Mohd Fahmi calls for greater private sector cooperation for managing development in Kulai.

It wants to ensure facilities can cater to population growth

Kulai Municipal Council (MPKu) wants to ensure there are enough public amenities to cater to the yearly population increase in the area.

MPKu president Mohd Fahmi Salam said in a recent census, the total population in the district was 329,497 people with a population density of 436 people per sq km.

This categorised Kulai as having dense population distribution.

“Based on the Kulai District Local Plan 2035 consultant’s recommendations, I urge agencies to work closely to ensure the provision of public facilities such as health clinics, schools, police stations, fire and rescue stations and recreational areas,” he said.

“This is to ensure that these facilities can accommodate the projected population growth that is higher than the current average of 3% per year,” said Mohd Fahmi during MPKu’s full board meeting.

He also called for greater cooperation from the private sector, especially for managing development in Kulai.

This covered areas such as infrastructure development planning, ensuring efficient road network in each area, sanitation management or initiatives in the form of social support such as education and skills training, he said.

Mohd Fahmi added that Johor, in particular Kulai, had emerged as one of the main investment locations in the region.

This, he said, mirrored the commitment of both state government and MPKu in attracting more investment in developing talent development, green technology and renewable energy.

He said the district’s ability to attract more investments was due to several important factors, such as addition of cargo and passenger handling capacity at Senai International Airport and improved infrastructure and communication networks.

“Moving forward, MPKu is committed to realising our ambition to make Kulai a low-carbon and smart city, which has been outlined through the Kulai District Local Plan 2035 and Smart City Action Plan.

“The council also upholds the decree made by Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim to ensure the agenda of eradicating extreme poverty in Johor is always our priority,” added Mohd Fahmi.

Besides continued assistance in the form of cash and equipment, he urged investors in Kulai to provide opportunities in the form of employment and business to the local community.

In conjunction with Malaysia’s 67th National Day celebration on Aug 31, Mohd Fahmi also asked that everyone decorate the district with the Jalur Gemilang as an expression of patriotism and love for the country.
