A GROUP of disgruntled residents held a protest at Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) over housing and relocation issues in Jinjang Selatan Tambahan, Kepong.

Jawatankuasa Gabungan Isu Perumahan dan Pampasan secretary Ameer Khan Bargathalli said they were seeking a meeting with Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Dr Maimunah Mohd Sharif to iron out concerns.

He said there were claims of outsiders being offered a free unit at the low-cost development meant for the residents there.

The 35-storey building was a replacement project for the squatter and longhouse residents in the area.

Ameer said the goal was to relocate the first-generation settlers, as the current site had been earmarked for a mixed-development project.

“A balloting session for the units was held by the developer, but we have no idea who these ‘residents’ are.

“DBKL should cancel it and disclose the names of recipients to ensure transparency,” he said when met at the protest.

Ameer said the settlement was home to 560 temporary occupational licence holders, which included several shoplots.

He said that of this figure, 220 were first-generation and that they were promised a free unit for the replacement project.

Meanwhile, 340 were second-generation settlers, and they were promised a unit priced at RM200,000.

The project for the first generation was already 80% completed, but the one for the second generation had yet to start, according to Ameer.

The residents also handed DBKL a memorandum.
