A total of 169 households from the B40 group in the Pelawan constituency in Sarawak have benefitted from Minor Rural Projects – Repairs and Rebuilding (MRP-PPRMS) fund from 2002 to July 2024.

The total amount involved was RM2.5mil. The money was spent on repairing leaky kitchens and damaged roofs.

Under this state-funded programme, each Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) assemblyman is given RM1mil a year for the purpose.

“Those B40 group in the Pelawan area who need assistance, can contact my service centre,” said Pelawan assemblyman Datuk Michael Tiang.

“Those that qualify will be put on the waiting list as we need to clear other cases first.”

Speaking to reporters during a site visit to four houses in Lane 3, Jalan Indah, he said the money would be used solely for minor work such as roof and kitchen repairs.

“Every year on an average we fix more than 60 houses of needy families who cannot afford to repair some of the basic issues like leaking roofs.

“We thank the Sarawak Premier for coming up with the RM1mil for the programme,” said Tiang, who is also state Public Health, Housing and Local Government Deputy Minister.

He said that according to the breakdown, RM999,690 was spent on 68 units in 2022, RM996,150 for 67 units (2023) and RM506,250 for 34 units (2024 Phase One). ― By ANDY CHUA
