Taking a winding staircase up to The Record Speakeasy from its back lanes makes it seem like you are visiting a vintage record store in a heritage building.
Yet, entering the premises offers a different experience, as the entrance opens up to a vinyl record-themed bar that oozes old-school vibes.
Expect ’90s pop and evergreen hits on Wednesdays and Thursdays while R&B and hip hop genres take centre stage on Fridays and Saturdays.
“When designing this place, I wanted to bring back old songs and hip hop from the ’80s and ’90s,” said co-founder Shawn Luke.
“So, we used vinyl records as well as a black and white chequered floor to decorate the place.
“Visitors can reminisce about the good old days and enjoy their drinks while listening to their favourite tunes.”
The drinks menu offers a selection of cocktails using different spirits.
The citrusy Razz Tazz cocktail combines Empress Gin, lemon and grapefruit juice, elderflower syrup and Prosecco.
Head mixologist Rickler Jetol, 34, said the cocktail was named after the Razz Ma Tazz Night Club in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, where he started bartending.
“It is a tribute to my seniors who taught me the tricks of the trade.
“One of my favourites is The Gentlemen, a cognac-based, spirit-forward drink.
“It is made with Hennessy VSOP, chamomile-infused vermouth, pomegranate juice, lemon and simple syrup.”
The refreshing but strong drink is perfect for a summer evening.
It offers a delightful balance of flavours that both invigorate and satisfy the palate.
Cloudy with a Chance of Orange, named after the animated movie Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, has a combination of Montelobos Mezcal, lime juice, simple syrup, orange bitters and kaffir lime leaf topped with fluffy orange foam.
For something stronger, try the Black Beard cocktail served in a tiki mug, with dark and spiced rums which goes well with apricot, Falernum, lime and Angostura Bitters.
“The drink was inspired by Shawn and has tropical notes,” Jetol said, adding that patrons often thought the tiki mug resembled a rockstar playing guitar.
Also try out Grandma’s Garden which is a mix of As De Picos Tropical, elderflower liqueur, Aperol and thyme.
Another option, The God Father Sour, is a mix of Monkey Shoulder whiskey, Amaretto liqueur, lemon, sugar syrup and egg white.
The bar also offers bottled whisky, gin, vodka, tequila as well as shooters and draught beer.
Currently, the bar is partnering with Kura Kraft for their hot dogs.
Some of these include beef bacon onion jam, jalapeno peach coriander, spicy relish and mushroom cheese.
From 6pm to 10pm Thursdays to Saturdays, the Fortune Hour drink promotion offers low aperitif drinks at RM25++, speciality cocktails at RM28++ and bar snacks at RM20++.
Gin, whiskey, vodka and tequila by the glass are priced at RM22+ each.
On Thursdays, ladies can enjoy free flow of cocktails from 10pm to 3am.
On Sundays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, the sunset hour offers speciality cocktails at RM25+ while five speciality cocktails plus a bar snack are priced at RM150+ from 5pm onwards.
