Teachers have an important role in pushing digital technology in education forward to meet the goal of becoming a developed, cultured and inclusive nation.

Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said an educator was a driving force in producing a responsible, competitive and ethical generation.

“Teachers play a crucial role in leveraging digital technology in education, which is essential for the nation’s goal of becoming developed, cultured and inclusive,” he said.

“This aligns with the seventh core objective outlined by the Education Ministry, which emphasises enhancing digital education capabilities in schools.”

Chow was the guest of honour at the northeast district education office awards to honour and recognise teachers for their excellent contributions, held in George Town, Penang.

Teachers Datuk Abdul Rashid Abdul Samad and Hadibah Hashim received the “Tokoh Kepimpinan Pendidikan” and “Tokoh Guru” awards respectively.

Chow expressed pride in the ministry’s commitment to team up with strategic partners to improve digital education facilities in schools, thereby supporting the Penang 2030 vision of “A Family-Focused Green and Smart State that Inspires the Nation”.

State publisher Buletin Mutiara reported that Chow also congratulated all 424 recipients of the “Excellence Service Award”.

He highlighted the state government’s commitment to developing digital education through the Penang State Secretariat Office’s Penang Digitalisation Strategic Plan (2021-2025).

“Key initiatives include improving digital infrastructure, teacher training and development, digital content development, and Technical Education and Vocational Training.

“Dedicated teachers extend their impact beyond the classroom by bridging the gap between schools and the community.

“As Chief Minister, I hope all educators continue to provide exemplary service and become agents of change to produce a Madani generation,” he added, referring to the Malay acronym representing sustainability, care and compassion, respect, innovation, prosperity and trust.

Also present was northeast district education officer Mohamad Zawawi Ahmad.
