A TRIP down memory lane awaits visitors at Intermark Mall, Kuala Lumpur, where the exhibition “A Journey Through Time” shows how the city has transformed over the past six decades.

The unity, multiculturalism and resilience that have driven Kuala Lumpur’s expansion are reflected in the exhibition that is ongoing until Sept 1 at the mall’s ground floor.

Intermark Mall general manager Evelyn Woon said the mall adopted the National Day theme “Malaysia Madani: Jiwa Merdeka” for the exhibition.

“It resonates deeply with the values we hold dear,” she said.

“It reflects the rich tapestry of cultures and ethnicities that make up our nation, and it is through this diversity that we find our strength.

“Our campaign is a tribute to the city’s evolution – one that mirrors the journey of our nation, where different cultures have come together to build something extraordinary,” said Woon.

She highlighted that the exhibition was a collaboration between Kuala Lumpur Library, Sketchwalk Kuala Lumpur, World Culture Organisation (WCO) and The Retirement Fund Inc (KWAP).

It features an impressive collection of historical photographs that trace Kuala Lumpur’s journey over the past 60 years.

“Additionally, we are celebrating Sketchwalk KL in conjunction with its 10th anniversary,” said Woon, adding that the exhibition would also feature works by 15 artists.

Kuala Lumpur Library provided the accompanying information to the artworks.

This included facets of Kuala Lumpur’s history from 1880 until 1974 when the city was declared a federal territory.

It also tells of how different communities were represented by inspiring figures, such as those who took on the Dato Dagang and Chinese Kapitan roles of the early Malay and Chinese communities respectively.

It also displays the city’s street names before they were renamed, as of Nov 26, 2014.

These changes included Jalan Duta being renamed to Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim, Jalan Ipoh to Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah and Persiaran Duta to Persiaran Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin.

On the shopping centre’s second floor, there is an exhibition of miniature art by WCO.

There will also be a “MyPesara Bazaar” by KWAP, showcasing souvenirs by over 50 Malaysian artisans.

Shoppers can redeem cash vouchers throughout the Merdeka celebration period.

Also present during the exhibition’s launch were KL Library head librarian Anita Mohd Jali and Sketchwalk KL’s founder Linda Yong Li Yun.
