An exhibition displaying historical events leading up to Malaysia’s independence was part of the department’s National Day celebration in Putrajaya.

National Day celebrations were extra sweet for Federal Territories Department (JWP) staff in Putrajaya thanks to 1,000 cupcakes from strategic partners.

The cupcakes, delivered plain, were donated by Putrajaya Holdings and The Everly Putrajaya hotel.

JWP staff were then given a chance to ice the treats, with guidance from the hotel’s pastry chef Jamaludin Hashim.

The frosting was available in red, blue, yellow and white to represent the national flag, and staff got to take home cupcakes they had decorated.

Jamaludin said the cupcakes were baked a day before to allow their texture to settle.

“Usually, a cupcake tends to be crumbly within 24 hours of being baked.

“It needs to be kept overnight to allow it to settle,” he told StarMetro.

He noted that some JWP employees were good at cake decorating.

“They did not require much supervision, although I did occasionally offer them some tips,” he added.

Guest of honour and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa, accompanied by JWP director-general Datuk Noridah Abdul Rahim, also tried their hand at decorating the cupcakes.

Earlier, Dr Zaliha distributed the Jalur Gemilang to 28 vehicles of various government departments in Putrajaya.

Among the recipients were the Civil Defence Force, National Anti-Drugs Agency and Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur Lands and Mines Office.

Dr Zaliha said the cake decorating and flag distribution were part of an effort to enliven the National Day celebration.

“This is in line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s call to enhance the spirit of patriotism among Malaysians,” she said.

Dr Zaliha also noted that 20,000 national flags had been distributed in Putrajaya, in addition to 40,000 in Kuala Lumpur.

“We also recently organised a programme called ‘One House, One Flag’ in Labuan,” she added.

The Putrajaya programme also featured an exhibition of major historical events leading up to the country’s independence.
