Contingents taking part in Saturday's state-level Merdeka day celebration during a pre-rehearsal at the Majlis Bandaraya Seremban Padang today

SEVERAL main roads in Seremban will be closed from 6.30am to noon on Thursday (Aug 29) and Saturday (Aug 31) in conjunction with National Day celebrations.

Seremban OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Hatta Che Din said the closures are for the full rehearsal on Thursday and the actual celebration on Saturday.

They are Jalan Yam Tuan, Jalan Kuil, Jalan Dato Hamzah, Jalan Dato Sheikh Ahmad and Jalan Dato Bandar Tunggal.

Roads to be partially closed are Jalan Tunku Hassan, Jalan Lee Fong Yee, Jalan Lim Kee Siong, Lorong Khalsa, Lorong Jawa and Bulatan Istana.

"There will be several alternative routes for motorists passing through the city during the closures," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Aug 28).

Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir and his consort Tunku Ampuan Besar of Negri Sembilan Tuanku Aishah Rohani Tengku Besar Mahmud will grace the state-level celebration on Saturday at the Majlis Bandaraya Seremban Padang.

Also in attendance would be the four Undang or chieftains of Sungai Ujong, Rembau, Jelebu and Johol, as well as the Tunku Besar Tampin, and their consorts.

The state anthem will then be played followed by the inspection of a guard of honour by the state Ruler.

This will be followed by the hoisting of the Jalur Gemilang, the singing of the Negaraku and the reciting of the Rukun Negara led by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

Contingents from government departments and agencies, the Armed Forces, uniformed bodies, the private sector, non-governmental organisations and other groups will then march past the main stage.
