DRESSED as aliens from the Predator film franchise, two residents of a Bandar Baru Air Itam flats in Penang made heads turn as they handed out the Jalur Gemilang to passing motorists.

They also distributed flags to residents of Block 7G flats at Jalan Thean Teik.

The duo, who declined to be identified, wished recipients “Happy National Day” while giving away the flags.

The initiative was part of a collaboration with the Sungai Dondang village community management council, which organised a Jualan Rahmah programme at the flats to offer affordable food and household items to residents.

Its chairman Ooi Cheng Eng said the men in Predator’s alien costumes helped liven up the atmosphere.

Since the National Day celebration is just around the corner, he said the initiative to hand out the Jalur Gemilang was a bonus.

“Many people who were attracted by their appearance came to get the flags and have photos taken with them.

“We wish to instil the spirit of patriotism among the people, especially the young.

“The presence of the alien characters for the occasion definitely attracted the crowd’s attention and helped to promote the initiative,” he said.

Ooi said 150 mini flags were handed out during the programme. — By LO TERN CHERN
