THE rising number of scam cases affecting particularly senior citizens is alarming, says Malaysian Ex-Police Association (PBPM) Sentul branch chairman Datuk Basant Singh Sidhu.

He expressed concern at the trend of criminals targeting the elderly as even retired police officers had fallen victim to sophisticated scam techniques.

“Crime, especially cybercrime, is escalating daily.

“It is disturbing to see how criminals have adapted their tactics to deceive even former lawmen,” he said at a press conference after the PBPM Sentul branch annual general meeting (AGM).

The event, attended by Sentul deputy OCPD Supt Jasni Zolpa, saw the distribution of membership cards to PBPM branch members.

Cardholders enjoy medical benefits and perks from the government.

Supt Jasni said the cards were for ex-policemen, their spouses and children as well as ex-police volunteer reserve servicemen.

He also emphasised the importance of ongoing cybercrime prevention campaigns.

PBPM, under the leadership of its president Mokhtar Omar, has been actively involved in community outreach as well as support for its members.

The AGM served as a platform for members to discuss potential initiatives aimed at strengthening the Sentul community’s resilience against such crimes.

Efforts discussed included collaborations with local authorities and financial institutions to enhance public awareness and protection measures.
