Johor government and Tourism Johor are urged to collaborate and invest in the development of Lorong Seni Masai as a prominent tourist information centre in line with the Visit Johor Year 2026 agenda.
Kampung Baru Masai village chief Dr Chua Ching Hao said the strategic move was a crucial step in enhancing the state’s tourism offerings and promoting local culture and heritage to both domestic and international visitors.
“Lorong Seni Masai, a hidden gem in the bustling town of Masai, is known for its vibrant murals, art installations, and cultural events.
“The area has gained popularity among art enthusiasts and tourists seeking an authentic experience of Johor’s local culture.
“By transforming this artistic enclave into a full-fledged tourist information centre, the state can leverage its unique charm to attract more visitors and boost the local economy,” he said.
Chua said the strategic location of Lorong Seni Masai made it an ideal spot for a tourist information centre.
“It is located right in the heart of Pekan Masai, which was established in the 1970s.
“Lorong Seni Masai is also next to the Masai bus and taxi station, which makes it a perfect hop-on and hop-off location for tourists to come and go.
“By investing in infrastructure, signage and promotional activities, the state can ensure that Lorong Seni Masai becomes a must-visit destination for tourists,” he added.
By pooling resources and expertise, the state government can develop a comprehensive plan that could promote Lorong Seni Masai and integrate it into the broader tourism strategy for the state, said Chua.
This includes marketing campaigns, cultural events and partnerships with local businesses to create a vibrant and sustainable tourism ecosystem, he added.
Pasir Gudang City Council (MBPG) councillor Madyasir Ahmad Basir, in charge of Masai, said investing in Lorong Seni Masai as a tourist information centre would not only promote the local arts and culture but also create job opportunities for the residents.
“We started with the rejuvenation plan in November last year before we signed a memorandum of understanding with the local industries on how we can lift this town’s image.
“Pekan Masai was once one of the most important economic centres in Johor; we want to return the town to its glory days by introducing Lorong Seni Masai.
“The art lane was fully completed in June this year, and it has been a place for hipster stalls and youths to hang out besides monthly events and cultural programmes,” said Madyasir.
