Dozens of sheet piles at the landslide site will be installed this week.
SHEET piles will be installed to further stabilise the retaining wall of a slope that collapsed in Taman Bunga Raya in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur.
Kuala Lumpur Advisory Board member Andre Lai said sheet piles placed next to the slope would be installed this week.
“This will be a temporary measure to reinforce the wall,” he said.
A 40m portion of the slope had collapsed onto Jalan Genting Klang following a two-hour downpour on Aug 23.
While no casualties were reported, 52 residents from 17 houses located along Lorong Malinja 5 and Lorong Malinja 6 were ordered to evacuate.
Some of the residents have since moved back, following approvals from authorities, except for those from three houses sited directly above where the landslide occurred.
Lai said following the landslide incident, the water from drains within the wall had been redirected to prevent further soil erosion.
“There are two layers to the wall.
“The inner wall is the original wall near where the houses are located while the outer layer was built a decade ago to reinforce it.
“However, the outer layer of the wall had cracks prior to the landslide,” he said.
Currently, a tarpaulin sheet is covering the slope to protect the exposed portion.
Some of the fallen debris, such as bamboo plants, still remain at the site, as moving them might cause further soil movement.
Lai said civil engineers had been brought in to assess the situation.
“Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has been constantly monitoring the slopes and the cracks in the wall.
“We will see if there is a need to construct a new wall,” he said, adding that the entire stretch of the outer retaining wall should ideally be rebuilt.
