THE flood mitigation project along the Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP) near IOI Mall in Puchong, Selangor will be completed in December, two months later than previously announced.

Kinrara assemblyman Ng Sze Han said 60% of the project, which had faced several delays, has been completed.

He said preparations for the microtunneling or pipe jacking works under the LDP highway were nearly finished too.

(Pipe jacking is a method for installing underground pipes with minimal surface disruption).

“The work along the LDP near IOI Mall is done but we will need to wait for the jacking excavation work under the LDP to be completed, which is expected to be finished by December.

“The RM5.7mil cost is being borne by IOI Corporation Bhd, highway concessionaire Litrak and the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ),” he said during a site visit to Jalan Merbah 1, where the upgrading work is taking place.

He said the new pipe would divert 70% of the water to a lake behind IOI Mall, while the remaining 30% would be directed into an existing pipe leading to the monsoon drain next to the mall.

“Although the project has presented us many challenges especially at a busy location and with many utilities underneath it (the road), it is going smoothly,” said Ng.

He also gave an assurance that there would be no lane closures along the LDP throughout the project period.

Also at the site visit were MBSJ Zone 16 councillor Lee Jen Uyin and IOI Properties property investment chief operating officer Chris Chong.

The project was announced last Nov 5, following a series of flash floods that saw the mall’s carpark and lower floor submerged under 0.3m of water.

It was reported on March 18, that the project, which was initially scheduled to be completed by February, had been delayed to October due to realignment of a pipe passing beneath the highway.
