SMK Kampung Nangka students in Sibu, Sarawak, now have a proper place for assemblies as an 15,000sq m open area has been cemented and is ready for use.
“Students can use this cemented area for their gatherings,” said Pelawan assemblyman Datuk Michael Tiang during a site visit.
“Those in the afternoon session can assemble here while waiting for the morning session to end.
“Roofing was built to give them some shelter as well.
“The RM120,000 project was completed one month ahead of schedule under the Rural Transformation Project of Pelawan constituency,” he said.
Tiang, however, was not satisfied with the workmanship due to the uneven surface.
“Some parts of the surface are uneven. There are also some cracks.
“I have asked the contractor to rectify it as soon as possible,” he said.
Separately, Tiang said that he could only help schools in his constituency with minor projects as education matters come under the Federal Government.
“As for schools in Pelawan, I will try to go in to help them and do some of the projects like toilets, roofs, culverts and some other essential stuff,” he said.
“I really hope that the MP can provide more funds from the federal level to help some of the schools that really need aid, so that they can upgrade school facilities for the benefit of our children.”
To a question on other future development for SMK Kampung Nangka, he said works were in progress to build several pickleball courts and running/jogging tracks in an area outside the school.
“It is still a work in progress.
“We have finished phase one that includes a playground and some exercising equipment.
“The whole project involves three phases,” he added.
