Poor drainage in Taman Sri Andalas in Klang, Selangor is causing flash floods there.

Resident Aishah Aaqil believes sand trapped in the U-shaped drain underneath Jalan Seri Banang 14 was impeding water flow.

She added that the opening on both sides of the drain culvert could be too narrow.

“Flash floods are occurring along part of Jalan Seri Banang 14, Solok Seri Banang 15, 15B and 15C as well as Solok Seri Banang 16 when it rains heavily,” she said, calling for the authorities to widen the drain.

Resident Abdul Jalil Abdullah said 30 minutes of heavy rain would result in water overflowing onto Jalan Seri Banang 14.

He added that the road had been flooded three times in August alone.

Another affected resident Masrul Azam Abdullah said when drains outside his house at Jalan Seri Banang 14 overflowed, the water level on his porch reached up to 15cm high.

Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) councillor Mohd Rayme Abdul Rahman said KDEB Waste Management cleaners had been instructed to remove rubbish and silt in the drains at Solok Seri Banang 15.

“I also found soil blocking the outlet at Jalan Seri Banang 16 and hired a backhoe to clear the blockage,” he said.

Mohd Rayme added that to address the problem, he would propose building a concrete drain at the end of Jalan Seri Banang 16, at MBDK’s infrastructure sub-committee meeting.

Residents of Lorong Seri Banang 14A/KS02 and Lorong Seri Banang 14C/KS02 had also asked Mohd Rayme to help desludge monsoon drains off Jalan Sungai Jati.

MBDK Engineering Department is scheduled to hold a meeting on Sept 17 where a decision is expected to be made.
