A PROGRAMME to educate children about entrepreneurship and finances will be held in Ipoh on Sept 7.
Junior Chamber International (JCI) Kinta president Stephanie Hew said the “School of Hope – KidStart Junior Bazaar” would take place at Seri Botani International School at 8am.
The programme provides a platform for children aged six to 12 to learn about entrepreneurship.
“It is aimed at cultivating their leadership skills and business acumen,” said Hew.
“The programme was called ‘School of Hope: Children Flea Market’ when it was first introduced two years ago.
“We expect about 1,000 children and parents to take part,” she said during a press conference.
The event is held in collaboration with Wanita Perak, which is the state’s secretariat for women and society development.
The activity line-up includes workshops on art and craft, batik painting as well as dancing, mind mapping, robotics and lantern- making competitions.
“There will also be health talks, yoga and meditation sessions, free health screening, blood donation drive and flea market with 80 stalls run by children,” said Hew.
She said the programme, a flagship project of JCI Kinta, also aimed to provide equal educational opportunities for children from different backgrounds.
Event organising chairman Irvin Ho said the event would include orphans and children from B40 families to ensure a more inclusive participation.
“At the end of the programme, there will be a ‘Give Back to Society Day’ activity where participants will donate 10% of their profits to selected charitable organisations,” he said.
Perak women, family, social welfare, cooperatives and entrepreneur development committee chairman Datuk Salbiah Mohamed is expected to be present at the event.
