SOME people’s love for cats knows no bounds, such as Angie Kang, who takes care of 40 stray cats in a rented house next to her home in Pandan Perdana, Ampang.
Kang has been caring for these strays since October last year and uses her own money to buy food, pay for veterinary care and rent the house, which she named Meowi.
“I was going through depression and barely left the house, but my first cat changed everything.
“I saw how independent the cat was and how it cared for itself.
“It gave me the inspiration to pick myself up and commit to adopting stray cats,” explained Kang during a press conference organised by DAP Socialist Youth (Dapsy) public complaints bureau at her cat shelter.
She relies on sponsorship and holds events in collaboration with other parties to raise funds to support her cats.
Unfortunately, Kang’s world came crashing down when she was hospitalised for almost five months due to various medical issues.
This caused her to lose her part-time job helping to make meat rolls for a nearby stall.
Kang is now behind in rent for the cat shelter and is also unable to pay the animals’ medical bills.
Dapsy Public Complaints Bureau chief Lee Wen Bin as well as Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) Zone 21 councillor R. Moganraj have come to her aid.
Moganraj has arranged for Kang to set up a booth to raise funds at the Pandan Perdana morning market and Tasik Pandan Perdana recreational park from today until Sunday.
“We hope to raise RM25,000 to help Kang,” said Moganraj.
She will be selling pet food, cakes and cookies at her booth.
“I really hope the public can visit. It would mean a lot to me and the cats,” said Kang.
The booth will be open from 7.30am to 10am at Tasik Pandan Perdana recreational park and 7pm to 10pm at the Pandan Perdana morning market site for all three days.
