COMMITTED to offering diners a refined Teochew culinary experience, Upper Palace Teochew has opened its doors at The Exchange TRX, Kuala Lumpur.
Upper Palace Dining Group food and beverage director Datuk Henry Yip said the restaurant was leveraging on the cultural significance and historical roots of traditional Teochew dishes.
He said the restaurant stands out for its authentic recipes, high-quality ingredients, upscale dining atmosphere, and modern cooking techniques.
Yip said his aim of wanting to present the rich culinary heritage of Teochew cuisine, in a refined setting, inspired him to set up Upper Palace Teochew.
By offering educational experiences such as cooking classes and tasting events, as well as promoting the health benefits of traditional ingredients, the restaurant can position itself as a leader in the modern Chinese dining scene, he said.
Also present at the opening ceremony was Upper Palace Dining Group managing director Tan Sri David Cheng and his wife Puan Sri Mae Cheng.
Upper Palace Teochew also collaborates with Hong Kong’s Hung’s Delicacies, a Michelin starred restaurant, in giving diners a chance to enjoy authentic Teochew dishes without having to travel to Hong Kong.
Yip said the collaboration also aims to improve the authenticity and variety of dishes such as braised dishes such as goose fillets, cuttlefish fillets, and goose feet.
Some of the Teochew delicacies served here are braised South American Yellow Fish Maw, Teochew “Da Lang” style Chilled Flower Crab, and “Sheng Yan” Signature Soy Sauce marinated Raw Mantis Shrimp.
Peking Duck, a Beijing’s speciality is made with a Teochew twist.
Seven private rooms and a tea tasting area, which is designed for guests to enjoy a quiet tea ceremony experience with teas imported from Chaozhou, are a feature at the restaurant.
In conjunction with the grand opening, those who have downloaded the Upper Palace Dining Group app can redeem the “Upper Palace Teochew Grand Opening Voucher” worth RM50 that is valid until Oct 31 (no minimum spending required).
