Sibu authorities ordered to instal more street lamps, warning lights

THE local authority has been told to instal more street lights along Jalan Ulu Sungai Merah in Sibu.

Sibu MP Oscar Ling, in a statement, said he received residents’ complaints on insufficient street lights, especially at the road between the Church of the Saviour and two schools.

“They claimed it is difficult to see the road clearly when driving or riding a motorcycle at night.

“This is a potential accident risk as a car could accidentally drive into the ditch next to it,” he said.

When Jalan Ulu Sungai Merah was expanded a few months ago, the street lights and wires needed to be relocated, Ling added.

“The road surface was also paved with mud and stones, so the road conditions were a bit messy.

“When people pass through this section of the road, motorists need to be vigilant to prevent accidents.”

Ling suggested for the relevant authorities to inspect the street lights and road conditions near the school in Ulu Sungai Merah, instal more street lights, warning lights and signs to alert pedestrians and motorists.

He also said the section of Ulu Sungai Merah was also relatively low lying.

“During any flash floods, it will pose a potential risk to vehicles.

“I suggest that the authority instal more danger signs at these sections of the road for safety,” he added. ― By ANDY CHUA
