UKM hosts dinner, performances as a show of gratitude to practitioners
MEMBERS of the media fraternity were feted to a night of recognition when their contributions to the industry were honoured by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).
The university acknowledged the media’s achievements with an appreciation dinner, awards and lively performances.
UKM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Ekhwan Toriman said the MediaWave Night was to honour media practitioners who enhanced UKM’s image through their consistent writing and media coverage.
“UKM expresses its highest appreciation to the media practitioners who have covered UKM, whether through print or electronic media, including online platforms.
“Articles written by UKM academics have also been featured in newspapers, and UKM experts have been invited to discuss important national and societal issues on talk shows in electronic and online media,” he said, adding that it had been eight years since the last time UKM had hosted a media night.
He said between January and August, there were 14,700 mentions of UKM in various platforms and publications.
Prof Mohd Ekhwan said it was only fitting that these contributions were recognised and appreciated.
The highlight of the night was the five award categories that were presented to media practitioners.
The categories were the Best News Award, Best Feature Award, Best Issue Analysis Award, Most Coverage Award, and Best Interview Programme Award.
There was also a lucky draw prize session at the end of the night.
Also present were Higher Education Ministry deputy secretary-general (policy) Datuk Dr Megat Sany Megat Ahmad Supian, Higher Education director-general Prof Dr Azlinda Azman, UKM board of director member Datuk Ahmad Shalimin Ahmad Shaffie, and deputy vice-chancellor (academic and international affairs) Prof Dr Abdul Halim Abdul Gafor.
