NO toll charges will be imposed on the Batang Lassa Bridge and Batang Paloh Bridge, says Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg.
“The bridges in the Daro district will be toll-free once work is completed.
“All bridges in Sarawak are toll- free,” said the Sarawak Premier.
Construction work on the 2.43km Batang Lassa Bridge (costing RM597.58mil) and 1.7km long Batang Paloh Bridge (RM298.98mil) commenced in the first quarter of 2019.
“Once work on the bridges are completed, ferry services linking Pulau Bruit to Mukah, Tanjung Manis, Sibu and Sarikei will cease to operate,” said Abang Johari.
Speaking at the opening of Pesta Pulau Bruit, he said his dream of building the bridges had materialised.
“When I became Chief Minister in 2017, I announced a plan to build two bridges connecting Batang Lassa and Batang Paloh so that Pulau Bruit would no longer be isolated.
“Pulau Bruit would be connected to Daro, then to Mukah and onward to Tanjung Manis, Sibu and Sarikei,” he added.
On the clean water project, Abang Johari said the ongoing RM60mil water supply development project to provide Pulau Bruit with five million litres of water per day would be ready by year-end.
“The project to provide clean water to Pulau Bruit by the end of this year is underway,” he said.
As for the long-delayed RM5.6mil Semop Fishermen Resettlement Housing Project, he said the State Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) had been advised to start building the houses in stages.
