Selangor eyeing 82 medals at Para Sukma 2024

SELANGOR is aiming for 82 medals and a top three finish in the 2024 Para Malaysia Games (Para Sukma) in Kuching, Sarawak, which will take place from Sept 22 to 28.

State youth, sports and entrepreneurship executive councillor Mohd Najwan Halimi said he was confident the contingent would meet the target as Selangor’s Para Sukma athletes had been training well.

He represented Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari at a ceremony to hand over the state flag to the Selangor contingent in Shah Alam.

He also witnessed the handing over of a RM130,000 mock cheque from Selangor Menteri Besar Incorporated Foundation, a strategic partner of the Para Sukma Selangor contingent, while Selangor State Sports Council (MSNS) sponsored the contingent’s attire.

Amirudin, in his speech that was read out by Mohd Najwan, said there would be 163 representatives from Selangor, comprising para-athletes, coaches and managers at Para Sukma 2024.

“The 82 medal haul target comprises 29 gold, 24 silver and 29 bronze medals.

“Selangor’s contingent is taking part in 10 events – badminton, swimming, archery, athletics, ping-pong, tenpin bowling, boccia, chess, lawn bowling and powerlifting,” he said.

Mohd Najwan is heading the contingent with Deputy State Secretary (management) Datuk Mohd Yazid Sairi as his deputy.

Also present were Batu Tiga assemblyman Danial Al Rashid Haron Aminar Rashid who is also Selangor Disability Action Council chairman, Selangor Youth and Sports Department director Azura Sarbin who is also Selangor Para Sukma contingent chef de mission and Selangor Disabled Persons Sports and Recreation Association president Amrol Ambia.
