ABOUT 200 participants from 21 countries will descend on Lenggong, Perak, for a motorcycle race from Sept 24 to 29.

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said foreign participants of the Rimba Raid Lenggong Geopark 2024 were from Thailand, Ireland, Indonesia, Italy, Australia, Tunisia and the US.

“The race, similar to MotoGP, is being held in Lenggong for the first time.

“It was previously held in Kuala Tahan, Pahang, for eight years,” the Lenggong MP told a press conference.

He said participants would take home photos of Lenggong, and this would give the event global prominence.

“The event can also help boost the local economy through increased demand for food, beverages and accommodation.

“I urge local businesses to seize the opportunity to increase their income during the period, as there will be a high number of visitors,” he added.

Rimba Raid founder Datuk Captain Nik Ahmad Huzlan Nik Hussain said the race would feature a new track on a logging path which had been abandoned 20 years ago.

“There are strict rules to the race to prevent impacting the environment or damaging the forest.

“There will be a qualifying session on the 300km-long track before the actual race.

“To ensure safety, each rider will be equipped with gadgets for on-the-spot satellite communication for immediate emergency response if needed.

“This feature is crucial to track riders’ location in the forest,” said Nik Ahmad Huzlan.
