Getting the groove on


The Union keeps it to the 1980s, so fans of that music era can look out for them at Rock Bottom Bangsar and Dua KL.

TIME certainly has flown as we are in the third quarter of the year, with just over three months to go before a brand new year.

One thing that does remain constant, to a certain extent, are the musical offerings in the Klang Valley.

The valley’s crop of talented musicians definitely won’t let you down as they get into their groove on stage, with a sprinkling of something for almost every musical taste out there.

Here are a few places to get your groove on and let your hair down in the Klang Valley.

A brand new kid on the block, Dua KL is a live music venue that brings a great selection of musicians to the stage for great times after dark.

Tonight, Evie Feroza and Lethrio are in the house to get their jam on. Tomorrow night, everybody’s favourite 1980s tribute band, The Union, is back on stage to entertain with a selection that is strictly from the ’80s, no matter how obscure.

Set in the heart of Bangsar’s Telawi commercial area, Rock Bottom Bangsar is a great place to kick back and chill after a long hard day of work. It’s also a popular spot for football fans to catch the best of the English Premier League live and there’s plenty of musical action as well.

Every Friday, take a trip back to the 1980s with The Union rocking the stage at Rock Bottom. On Sunday nights, the Lighthouse trio of Gerard Singh, Vijay David and Raymond Chia entertain with a mix of retro vibes for music fans.

A great chill-out spot in Taman Tun’s commercial zone, Loco is a laid-back outlet where the music starts early for those looking to beat the Klang Valley’s infamous after-work traffic snarls.

Enjoy live music four nights a week, from 6.30pm. On Mondays, Sally and Kay take the stage, while on Tuesday evening, the veteran duo of Arab and Bada take the stage with their own take on classic covers and more.

On Wednesday, Chili and Kyra are in the house, then Ben and Mashi wrap up the action for the week every Thursday night.

Rockafellers PJ continues to turn up the heat with a selection of great music nights for fans in the heart of Petaling Jaya.

Jazz fans in the Klang Valley have another new venue to enjoy. Originally making its presence felt in TREC KL, Simply Jazz by Tin Box has moved to Publika for a whole new groove.

A breath of fresh air for jazz fans in the suburbs who’ve long had to make the trek deep into the heart of the city to get their kicks.
