Celebrating unity and sustainability

The fun run was held as part of the #AnakAnakMalaysia campaign.

SOME 5,000 people from all walks of life took part in a 5km run in Semenyih, Selangor, at an event that celebrated unity and sustainability.

In conjunction with the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations, Eco World Development Group Berhad had organised a fun run as part of its annual #AnakAnakMalaysia (AAM) campaign to ignite the spirit of patriotism.

This year’s event, called Duduk Fun Run and Bazaar, was named after one of the group’s serviced apartment projects and held at Eco Majestic in Semenyih.

The event was made more meaningful with the inclusion of an environmental awareness agenda under the “We Care” theme to push for the need to reduce carbon emission.

AAM campaign chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said he was very pleased with the turnout and support from the public.

“The event’s main objective is to bring people of all races together to promote unity, harmony and an inclusive society,” he said.

“We wanted to create an atmosphere where people of different races can come together, interact and make friends. This is our contribution to create a harmonious society.”

Lee said that the organisers also wanted to create awareness about the need to reduce carbon emission for a more environmentally friendly society.

“The initiative aligned with the government’s goal to achieve a carbon-neutral nation status by 2050.

“The run’s route took participants through a park in Eco Majestic to show them that it is a great place to have nature-friendly and healthy recreational activities, such as walking and jogging,” he said.

Lee also said that the theme reflected the company’s care for the environment, nation and underprivileged.

Lee, who is also Eco World Foundation chairman, said events such as those under the AAM campaign showcased the group’s commitment towards promoting unity and nation-building.

“We are also concerned about the welfare of the poor, especially on education.

“We are currently assisting about 2,000 students ranging from primary to tertiary education levels to ensure they get the necessary support to complete their studies,” he added.

Also present at the event were Kajang Municipal Council deputy president Mohd Fareez Mohd Ariss @ Mohd Hatta, Eco World Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Chang Khim Wah and Eco World Malaysia divisional general manager Evon Yap.

Over 40 vendors selling food, drinks and handicrafts took part in the bazaar, while a lineup of buskers and performers kept the crowd entertained.
