DBKL asked to address parking bay shortage in Kepong Baru

Motorists are parking their vehicles along Jalan Vista Mutiara 1 due to lack of parking bays in the area.

KEPONG residents want Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to build more council parking bays along Jalan Vista Mutiara 1 in Kepong Baru, Kuala Lumpur.

They say that population there has now increased since a three-block condominium was recently completed, resulting in inadequate parking.

Community activist Yee Poh Ping hoped DBKL would build a parking lot for residents and business operators’ convenience.

“There has been a shortage of parking bays due to the gradual development in Kepong Baru.

“For example, Jalan Vista Mutiara 1 is only 200m long, but there are four to five mixed commercial and residential buildings along the road with nearly 1,000 residential units.

“There were parking bays on both sides of the road before one of the condominiums was built in 2018.

“However, DBKL removed the parking bays after the condominium was built,” he said in a press conference at the site.

Yee said many people also patronised eateries at the ground level of a mixed commercial building, resulting in more bays being taken up.

“Due to lack of parking bays, motorists are parking their vehicles by the roadside,” he said.

Yee suggested for DBKL to construct a carpark on a vacant land next to the Vista Mutiara Condominium as a long-term solution.

“Widening certain road sections and adding parking bays along the roadside will only address the problem temporarily,” he said.

First Residence Condominium building manager Leong Wai Keong said since the parking bays were removed, the public has had no choice but to park their vehicles by the road.

“There used to be about 200 bays here but now there are just over 60 bays.

“We raised this issue with DBKL and their officers have visited the site, but the problem of insufficient parking bays has not been resolved,” Leong said.

Yee said he highlighted the matter to DBKL and hoped it would follow up with a solution for more parking bays in the area.
