A TEMPLE in Kampar, Perak, has disbursed about RM130,000 to the underprivileged, schools and medical centres in the district.

Seng Fatt Temple committee president Wong Kok Hoe said the recipients included 20 needy families, 15 high-achieving pupils from poor families and five schools.

“Each needy family - including single mothers and those categorised under the B40 group - was given RM2,000 each while the high-achieving pupils got RM1,000 each.

“The five schools included SJKC Pei Yuan, SMJK Pei Yuan, Pei Yuan High School, SJKC Chung Huah and SJKC Kampar Girls, with each getting RM3,000,” he said in his speech read out by temple deputy president Lim Yit Hoo during the presentation ceremony at the temple.

He said the St John Ambulans Malaysia hemodialysis centre and Pusat Dialisis Bestari Kampar each got RM5,000 while Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman Hospital received RM50,000.

“These institutions can help a lot of people in Kampar and we wanted to do our part by contributing to them,” he added.

Wong said the donation drive was started in July in conjunction with the Hungry Ghost Festival.

“We held the donation drive on and off in the last few years to help the needy and underprivileged with food and financial aid.

“This is the first time we have received such a huge amount and the first time we donated to the hospital,” he said.

“All donations received had been distributed.

“We are thankful to all the generous donors who contributed to our donation drive,” he said, adding they were planning to do it annually.

Wong said the temple would also continue to hold other charitable activities to give back to the community.

“We want to strengthen our ties with the local community, providing practical assistance and warmth to society.

“We will continue to uphold this spirit to benefit Kampar in the future,” he added.
