PLAGUED by pothole problems in her constituency, Puteri Wangsa assemblyman Amira Aisya Abd Aziz launched a dedicated programme to address the issue head-on.
“Ops Pothole,” launched earlier this year, aims to raise awareness about the pothole predicament and educate the public on the correct channels to lodge complaints for effective remediation.
“We have consistently received complaints from the residents of Puteri Wangsa regarding poor road conditions, with a particular emphasis on the issue of potholes,” Amira Aisya told StarMetro.
“These complaints come in frequently, averaging about three to five times weekly,” she said.
The situation worsens during the rainy season, when already fragile road surfaces deteriorate more rapidly.
Amira Aisya said the compromised road conditions posed significant safety risks, leading to several accidents in the area.
“This is a major concern for us, as the safety and well-being of the community are affected.
“We understand the frustration of motorists and the dangers these road conditions present,” she said.
To address these urgent issues, Amira Aisya and her team are working closely with relevant agencies such as the local council and the Public Works Department (JKR).
“We are actively working to address these issues as promptly and efficiently as possible,” she said.
The initiative also aims to help residents understand how to report such problems more effectively, facilitating quicker fixes.
“Ops Pothole” includes a mass pothole patching initiative, particularly in the Felda Ulu Tiram area.
“The mass pothole patching is done in collaboration with a community activist.
“This is also a way for us to highlight the seriousness of this issue to the relevant agencies,” Amira Aisya noted.
While there have been some seasonal improvements, she hopes for more consistent efforts in the future.
“A few times each year, we see mass patching efforts across the area, where the potholes are repaired.
“We hope that such efforts will be carried out consistently, moving forward,” she added.
