Road closure in Ipoh: Jalan Pasar Pinji to be closed from Sept 30 for drainage project

IPOH: The road along Jalan Peh Kee Koh in Jalan Pasar Pinji will be closed starting Monday (Sept 30) for an underground drainage project, which is expected to take three to four weeks to complete.

Pasar Pinji assemblymen Goh See Hua said the project aims to address the clogged drains in the area, which has been an issue for the past eight to ten years.

"The restaurants in this area have been pouring oil into the drains which causes blockages and prevents proper water flow. We believe the main issue lies in the underground drainage system," he told the reporters after the site visit at Jalan Peh Kee Koh (Sept 27).

"The Ipoh City Council (MBI) regularly does the cleaning of the drains here, however the next day it turns out to be clogged," he said.

He added that despite regular cleaning by the Ipoh City Council (MBI), the drains became clogged again the next day, causing bad odours and water flow issues at the entrance of the restaurants.

"We have received complaints from the public, nearby restaurants and tourists, as this area is a popular food destination.

"It is not good to leave such an issue unresolved, especially as we focus on Perak Tourism 2024," he added.

"Therefore, we will check what is wrong at the underground drainage and install grease traps at the drains here to filter out waste and prevent blockages.

"I have allocated approximately RM30,000 for this project. We hope to see a smooth flow," he said.
