Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) and PKT Logistics Group Sdn Bhd have entered a groundbreaking collaboration through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at The Ship Campus in Batu Kawan, Penang.

This strategic partnership is set to enhance UTeM students’ education by bridging academia and industry, particularly for those in the supply chain management and logistics fields.

The MOU was signed by UTeM’s vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Massila Kamalrudin and PKT Logistics Group CEO Datuk Seri Michael Tio, witnessed by UTeM Faculty of Technology Management and Technopreneurship dean Prof Dr Mohd Syaiful Rizal Abdul Hamid and Peninsula Higher Education group president and Peninsula College Georgetown chief executive Tung Chee Kuan.

In her address, Prof Massila highlighted the transformative impact of the MOU with PKT Logistics, emphasising UTeM’s commitment to industry-based learning and producing industry-ready graduates.

She said that by positioning The Ship Campus as UTeM’s Northern Education and Learning Centre, students could gain practical exposure and enjoy enhanced employability.

She underscored the importance of industry partnerships in driving innovation in education and reaffirmed UTeM’s dedication to ongoing collaborations that benefit students and the broader community.

Tio expressed PKT Logistics’ pride in positioning The Ship Campus as UTeM’s Northern Regional Education and Learning Centre, where the university’s supply chain management and logistics graduates would receive immersive, industry-aligned learning experiences in state-of-the-art facilities.

“By integrating academic learning with practical industry exposure through our ‘campus-in-industry’ concept, we are equipping students with the skills and insights necessary to thrive and succeed in a competitive global market.

“This model bridges the gap between education and the real world, ensuring that graduates are not only knowledgeable but also industry-ready,” he said.

UTeM Centre for Enterprise and Technopreneurship Development director Dr Isma Addi Jumbri said: “Forty students are participating in a programme that allows students to gain invaluable hands-on experience while earning an income, all within the supportive environment of PKT Logistics.”

The MOU aims to pave the way for more student-centric programmes, such as the logistics company’s management trainee programme, which offers salary packages and career development opportunities for high-achieving students with a CGPA of 3.5 and above.
