BUSINESS owners who fail to renew their licence by March 31 next year will have to pay five times more, says Petaling Jaya mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon.
He said those who renewed licences before March 31 would only have to pay RM50 as processing charges.
If they do so between April 1 and June 1, the amount will go up to RM250.
After July 1, their licences will be cancelled.
“This is not new, it has been there for 10 years but we are being strict about it now,” said Mohamad Zahri after a Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) full board meeting.
On the collection of non-tax revenue for the year, MBPJ had collected up to RM14,927,563 as of September, which was a decrease of RM471,921 compared to last year.
This was due to a delay in the issuing of planning permission extension notices for advertising structures located in areas under the purview of Works Ministry and the Malaysian Highway Authority, said the mayor.
This had in turn caused delays in the renewal process for holders of outdoor signage licences, he added.
On the assessment tax revision, Mohamad Zahri said a 10-day session to hear residents’ objections was held starting from Aug 14 at Civic Hall.
Of the 26,300 property owners who objected and were invited, only 5,290 showed up.
During the session, a video on the reasons behind the revaluation was shown, said Mohamad Zahri, adding that all objections would be sent to the state government for the final decision.
On preparations for the 2025 budget, he said MBPJ received 321 suggestions online as well as through a townhall session.
The council received the most feedback regarding road repairs, followed by sheltered walkways and installation of closed-circuit television cameras.
On his aim to improve service delivery, Mohamad Zahri urged councillors to contact him directly should there be delays in terms of response or remedy.
“I also want to know the reason behind the delay,” he said.
