SUBANG Jaya City Council (MBSJ) has engaged a consultant to map out underground utilities and soil structure in areas under its jurisdiction.

Mayor Datuk Amirul Azizan Abd Rahim said the exercise was initiated following the sinkhole incident at Masjid India in Kuala Lumpur.

“The council’s infrastructure department is slated to present details of the exercise during a meeting next month.

“It will start next year and the completion date will be determined after that,” he said when met after chairing a full board meeting.

Findings from the initiative would enable MBSJ to make informed decisions regarding future developments, Amirul Azizan elaborated.

On a separate matter, he said some 2,800 crows were shot during a recent operation.

It involved 25 shooters who had obtained permits from the police.

“The shooting operation is conducted once a year to keep the crow population under control.

“Participants received RM6 per bird and some RM16,700 was paid out,” said the mayor.

He said the operation was also supervised by the police.

Improper disposal of food waste by eateries, he noted, was among reasons for the proliferation in the number of crows.

On the dengue situation, Amirul Azizan said some 6,700 cases were reported in Subang Jaya as of mid-September.

He said three areas – Taman Subang Mas, Taman Bukit Serdang 5 and Pangsapuri Angsana USJ 1 – were recently identified as hotspots.

“MBSJ and the Petaling district health office have stepped up inspections, fogging and operations to destroy mosquito breeding grounds,” he added.

Separately, Amirul Azizan said MBSJ was also mulling setting up a centre to house stray cats and dogs it had rescued.

He said the city council’s Health Department would be tasked with coming up with the standard operating procedure.

“If MPSepang (Sepang Municipal Council) can do it, I am confident that MBSJ too has the capability,” he said.

The Cyberjaya Cat Park operated by MPSepang was opened to the public in March last year.
