Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) has allocated RM21.6mil for the MyKiosk@KPKT project that will benefit 13 local councils in Johor.

Johor housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said Kulai Municipal Council (MPKu) received 50 kiosks under the first phase of this year’s distribution.

“The 50 kiosks are worth RM1.2mil. To date, we have received a total of 867 kiosks located across Johor valued at RM21.6mil, under this year’s budget from the ministry.

“The initiative aims to assist roadside stall owners and petty traders by providing safe, well-managed locations to conduct their business, along with a licence to operate at a low rental rate,” he said when contacted.

Mohd Jafni also thanked Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming for the allocation, and expressed hope that the kiosks would help Johor’s B40 petty traders increase their income.

He said the 50 kiosks in Kulai would be placed at eight locations in Taman Mas, Taman Putri, Taman Bahagia, Kulai Cycling Park, Taman Tropika, Lorong Susur 1, Taman Sri Senai and Pusat Perniagaan Pulai Jaya.

“These kiosks will be given to those who genuinely run food businesses.

“In the past, they might have been chased away by the local council’s enforcement team. Now, we are helping them with a permanent space and to register their businesses,” said Mohd Jafni.

“Each kiosk, worth RM25,000, comes equipped with a solar-powered charging point.”

The traders will also enjoy a six-month grace period during which they can run their business rent-free.

“After the first six months, they will need to pay RM50 monthly for rent, which will continue until the end of next year,” said Mohd Jafni.

He said the licence fee was RM220 per year.

Regarding the Kulai Cycling Park in Bandar Indahpura, he said MPKu would upgrade it this year at a cost of RM477,000.

“The area has been designated as a hub for healthy living, sports and recreation.

“The existing facilities there include cycling and jogging tracks, catering to both residents and visitors,” said Mohd Jafni.

“As part of the second phase of development, additional facilities such as a skatepark, callisthenics equipment, mini playground, public toilets and kiosks will be added.

“These new features are designed to enhance the area’s appeal and promote the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle, regardless of age,” he said.

Mohd Jafni added that this development was a significant step towards fostering a vibrant, health-conscious community.
