THE Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) is undertaking various initiatives to achieve its target of 40% carbon emission reduction by 2035.

These include having awareness programmes in schools, promoting the use of public transport, recycling and tree planting.

“We need to encourage the community to embrace green technologies such as improving waste management systems,” said Subang Jaya deputy mayor Mohd Zulkurnain Che Ali during the Smart Generation Low Carbon Schools programme, which saw the participation of 150 students and teachers representing 35 primary and secondary schools.

“This initiative ties in with the MBSJ Local Draft Plan 2035, particularly its focus on green growth and low carbon.

“Along with promoting low-carbon practices, the programme encourages a greater understanding of environmental responsibility,” said Mohd Zulkurnain during the event at MBSJ multi-purpose hall in USJ 7.

It was held in collaboration with the Town and Country Planning Department (PLANMalaysia), Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC), and the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (Seda).

The programme included presentations on how schools can adopt low-carbon practices.

An exhibition was also set up, featuring booths from MBSJ’s landscape and environmental management departments as well as displays from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and Universiti Teknologi Mara Puncak Alam campus.

It showcased the latest low-carbon technologies and initiatives to teachers and students.
