ALL Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) heads of departments have been warned of action if they fail to attend the city council’s programmes.

Mayor Datuk Amirul Azizan Abd Rahim said this was his final reminder.

“I expect to see full attendance and I will take action against those who fail to show up at programmes.

“Keep in mind that we have a responsibility and we get paid a monthly salary and allowance,” he said during MBSJ’s full board meeting.

However, he did not elaborate on the form of action that would be taken or if any of the department heads had a record of absenteeism.

Amirul Azizan also urged officers to be professional when carrying out enforcement.

“Some officers tell the public that an operation is carried out supposedly under the orders of a councillor or the mayor.”

Calling this unprofessional, he said, “The officers should understand that conducting the operation is their obligation under the council, not because they are ordered to do so.

“It’s their responsibility to uphold the law.”

Amirul Azizan also said enforcement officers should not disclose the details of complainants during operations.

“If their details keep getting disclosed, the local councillors or residents association representatives might be reluctant to make reports in the future due to concerns against reprisals,” he said.

This, he added, could result in confrontation between the public and enforcement officers.

On a separate matter, Amirul Azizan said MBSJ might consider renting drone cameras after several of its units were damaged.

He said this would save the council money while also reminding the personnel to be mindful when using council equipment.

On another matter, he said RM72,000 cash aid had been disbursed to low-income and needy households in the city.

The amount covered 360 recipients at all 24 zones under Subang Jaya, with each receiving RM200.

In the past, there had been cases of confrontation between local council enforcement officers and dissatisfied traders.

On Aug 18, a video went viral showing a verbal altercation between Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) officers and traders in Taman Lembah Maju in Ampang.

The video showed MPAJ officers being questioned aggressively for not taking action against a stall manned by a foreigner.

A woman was also heard accusing one of the officers of soliciting bribes, a claim MPAJ has denied.

In August 2020, a recording of an operation by Shah Alam City Council on a roadside burger stall in Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh went viral where the officers were accused selective enforcement.

After the incident went viral, the officers later raided other operators in the same area for various licensing offences.
