The many events held at Sibu Jaya township in Sibu, Sarawak, have boosted residents’ quality of life and created economic opportunities for everyone.

Amcorp Group executive chairman Tan Sri Azman Hashim said this at the launch of Concert Carnival Sibu Jaya 2024.

Built in 1995 by Amcorp Sibujaya Sdn Bhd and its parent company Amcorp Properties Bhd, the township now has a population of around 30,000.

This growth has happened alongside continuous commercial and residential development in the township.

Sibu Jaya residents had benefitted from events organised by Amcorp, the government, NGOs and community groups, said Azman.

He further said that sustainable economic growth and the community spirit of “Segulai Sejalai”, as espoused by Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg, should be emulated throughout Malaysia.

“A thriving community living in harmony on the back of rising income – this is another aspect of Sibu Jaya’s transformation and our collective pride.

“Let us all come together, face whatever challenges lie ahead and savour our sweet success,” he added.

Touching on the residents’ sense of unity, Azman said events in Sibu Jaya fostered bonds among the people regardless of age, race and religion.

“As the Premier of Sarawak said last year, all of us can live together as one family under the same roof – ‘Segulai Sejalai’ – and that is what Sibu Jaya stands for,” he said.

Expressing gratitude for the continued support of the local community and stakeholders, he also thanked Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Azman also acknowledged Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC), Sarawak Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and dedicated teachers and students from Sibu Jaya’s schools – SMK Sibu Jaya, SK Sibu Jaya and SJK (C) Thian Hua.

“The team efforts of security forces such as the police and local entities including Health Ministry and Sarawak Energy Bhd have led to the smooth execution of the events in Sibu Jaya.

“The overwhelming response from the community and the rising number of visitors year after year is very heartwarming,” he added.

An estimated 12,000 people thronged the Azman Hashim Community Sports Centre where the carnival was held.

Among them was the Sarawak Premier’s political secretary Joshua Ting Fu Ying who was representing Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

Also present were AmBank Holdings chairman Tan Sri Md Nor Md Yusof and his wife Puan Sri Shahrulbariah Mohd Nawawi.

Among the various community leaders present were Sibu Division Chinese community leader Pemanca Datuk Jason Tai, who is also Pansar Group managing director, SRDC chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai, HDC chief executive officer Fathi Hambali, HDCam Sdn Bhd director Datuk Che Md Nawawi Ismail and Amcorp Group’s top ranking officials led by chief executive officer Azlan Baqee Abdullah.
