STAR Media Group (SMG) Bhd employees had the chance to interact with government agencies, participate in health checks and shop at booths in Menara Star, Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

This initiative was part of Star Employee Enrichment Day (SEED) 2024, an annual event organised by SMG’s Group People Department.

Menara Star buzzed with activity over the two-day event as visitors flocked to the booths on the ground floor as well as on the first and second floors.

The government agencies’ mobile units, such as the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and the National Registration Department (JPN), were especially popular.

Many at the JPJ mobile unit checked for summonses or extended their driving licence’s validity period.

Some booths, including one set up by the National Blood Bank, were open to the public, enabling many to donate blood.

SMG employee Rebecca Rajaendram said she had been looking forward to the health checks, which emphasised the importance of preventive healthcare.

“Most people only go for a health examination when symptoms appear, as routine checks can be expensive,” she said.

“The booth’s staff were very detailed when conducting the checks and in their explanations.

“The SEED event provides a valuable opportunity for SMG staff members to monitor their health at no cost.

“The JPN mobile unit was also very convenient for me as I could get my son’s MyKid application done without having to visit a JPN branch,” she added.

Another SMG employee, Asnol Shahib Alwi said there was so much to do at the event and many of the activities were free of charge.

“I enjoyed checking out the booths to see the products and services that were being offered.

“I started my day with a massage offered by visually- impaired people,” he said.

The event was launched by SMG group chief executive officer Chan Seng Fatt.

SMG Group People senior general manager Terence Raj said the event bolstered the company’s employee engagement initiatives by bringing together government agencies, retailers and health service providers.

“The goal of this initiative is to offer our employees the convenience of accessing these services all in one place.

“We appreciate the participation of everyone involved and we look forward to their continued support,” he said.

SMG employees received goodie bags with food, product samples and vouchers from participating vendors and sponsors.

There was also a lucky draw featuring prizes such as a smartwatch and a health screening package.

About 50 vendors participated in the event, including Beacon Mart, Socma Trading, MCIS Insurance Bhd and Alpro Pharmacy.
