The Malaysia Hindu Sangam (MHS) has been urged to work closely with Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC) and Penang Women’s Development Corporation (PWDC).
Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said both PYDC and PWDC had consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing the growth of youth and women through their programmes.
“Collaborating with these agencies will undoubtedly align with and support MHS’ objectives in promoting the spiritual, moral, cultural and social interests of Hindus,” Chow said at the closing ceremony of the Thirumurai recital programme at SJK(T) Mak Mandin hall in Butterworth.
He said MHS had created a platform for women in Penang to grow, learn and lead.
“The Women’s Bureau under MHS has taken significant steps to create safe spaces for families, particularly those facing domestic violence.
“The Youth Bureau under MHS has been proactive in nurturing, training and empowering Indian youths to be ready to lead the community and address the various challenges they may face.
“The Penang government welcomes the progress of these bureaus, which is crucial to the development of both Indian youth and women in the state,” said Chow.
As reported in Buletin Mutiara, Chow said MHS had been active in welfare services, religious development and education.
“MHS offers religious classes, computer classes and seminars at no cost to Indian students from schools in Penang,” he added.
Thirumurai is a compendium of songs or hymns in praise of Lord Shiva that were compiled between the 6th and 11th centuries by various poets-saints in South India.
It is still sung without much change to the original compositions.
Also present at the event were Jelutong MP RSN Rayer, Senator Dr RA Lingeshwaran, MHS president T. Ganesan and Penang MHS chairman A. Tharman.
