SOUL-stirring tribal songs and choral pieces celebrating Taiwan’s Atayal culture as well as the spirit of hope and resilience moved donors at a charity dinner in Kuala Lumpur.

On stage at the HGH Convent-ion Centre, the Taiwan Children’s Choir sang to raise funds for underserved children.

The group comprised 25 children from the indigenous Atayal tribe.

Among those present at World Vision Malaysia’s “Pure Hearts, Soaring Voices” charity dinner was Taipei Economic and Cultural Office deputy representative James Buu.

He felt inspired witnessing the choristers share their culture with Malaysians.

“Their performance showed music transcends borders and unites people.

“I was proud to have witnessed this collaboration which will uplift the lives of vulnerable children and families,” he said.

The funds raised from the event will support World Vision Malaysia’s Community Development Fund.

This aids children and families through programmes that focus on child protection, livelihoods, health, nutrition, education and clean water.

Beneficiaries are then given knowledge and skills necessary to achieve self-sufficiency.

World Vision Malaysia chief executive officer Terry Leong thanked Malaysians’ generosity.

“We have been able to make a tangible impact on the lives of hundreds of thousands of children worldwide.

“This is a clear demonstration of love in action and a testament to the pure hearts of Malaysians,” he said.

The dinner saw about 750 guests enjoying the performance that was joined by Malaysian artiste Mei Sim.

Choirmaster Temu Koto shared his experiences in bringing together choir members.

World Vision Taiwan chief executive officer Caroline Li, who travelled with the choir, said the organisation had been supporting the Atayal children in Hsinchu county and nurturing the choir for over 10 years.

“Cultural empowerment through the choir helps the children develop their interests, broaden their horizons, see the world and transform their lives while instilling a heart of gratitude.

“On this trip to Malaysia, the children are excited to give back through beautiful songs and spreading hope so that more children and families can live life in all its fullness.”

Partners of the charity dinner were Inventec and Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation.
