Council inks deal with school to boost arts and culture in Pasir Gudang

Nurul Ashikin says a major event will be organised every month in Pasir Gudang next year.

Pasir Gudang City Council (MBPG) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Sekolah Seni Malaysia Johor as part of efforts to enhance the city’s image for Visit Pasir Gudang Year 2025.

MBPG secretary Nurul Ashikin A. Jabar said under the MOU, the school would help transform Dewan Muafakat Masai into a centre for arts and culture in Pasir Gudang.

“The proposal is ready and we have submitted it to the state government for approval.

“Sekolah Seni Malaysia Johor will manage arts and culture programmes in Pasir Gudang.

“We plan to organise a major event every month next year, in addition to larger ones such as Pasir Gudang World Kite Festival,” she said when met after the full board meeting.

Nurul Ashikin also highlighted ongoing projects, including upgrades to pedestrian walkways around Masai and the Masai bus terminal.

“Since Lorong Seni Masai was completed, our next project is improving the bus terminal, and we have received funding from the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT),” she added.

MBPG will also soon appoint a new chairman for Pasir Gudang Tourism Association, she added.

“The association will oversee the running of all tourism programmes,” she said.

MBPG chief whip Datuk Mohd Amin Ahmad said one of the priority projects was completing Dataran Mahkota Pasir Gudang.

“The goal is to offer the public activities they can engage with and enjoy, while ensuring that the city council continues to provide the best service.

“The development of Hospital Pasir Gudang and the new health clinic in Taman Cendana is timely, reflecting the area’s growth and development,” he added.

Mohd Amin also shared that Pasir Gudang’s population had exceeded 500,000.

“The population of Johor Jaya alone is already over 150,000,” he said.
